If there were one modern invention that has opened the door to limitless possibilities, it would be the Internet. Since its invention in 1989, the Internet has never ceased to provide opportunities for people to discover and rediscover so many things. Aside from paving the way to easy access to almost any information, the Internet has become an avenue to connect people in different parts of the globe.
FORMING ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS
One of the most popular means of connecting people through Internet is online dating service. Online dating—far from the common conception of being a desperate act of those people who are quite eager to form romantic relationships—is actually an excellent means of meeting new people, expanding dating pool, or even getting back on the dating scene.
Participated in by millions of people, usually interesting singles looking for prospective partners, online dating is a good way to get out of the shell especially for those who have traumatic experiences in ordinary dating.
Today, more and more people are into online dating services because of time constraint. Too busy in other things, people who are into online dating want to maximize their time by meeting people virtually and form connections with them. Unlike regular dating which will require one to reserve seats in the restaurant or movie house, dress properly, look for possible date gift, and leave behind his/her schedule, online dating will give each individual enough time know each other without exclusive commitment. And since online dating doesn’t establish exclusivity to both parties, singles that are into it can even look for other interesting people who they can connect with.
ONLINE DATING SERVICE 101
If you are open to the possibilities of romantic relationships by using online dating services, then you must be well aware of the ins and outs of the virtual dating industry.
First, to be able to maximize the possibilities of the online dating service, you must take note of your budget and time before you finally sign up so you can estimate how much time and money you can invest in virtual dating. Second, surfing the Internet for good online dating services can help you decide which one is the best for you. By visiting various websites that offer online dating services, you can see if there are any specific sites that can cater to your interests and needs. Since most of these online dating services offer free trials, you can even take advantage of that promotion to know how well the site or the online dating service itself works.
But if you want first hand information, you might want to ask your friends who have tried using several online dating services and ask which one is the best option for you. If you have chosen several sites, don’t be afraid to sign up for more because this will expand and diversify your selection. The following are some of the technicalities you have to deal with in signing up for a specific online dating service.
1. Payment models. Usually, it’s free to post a profile and photo in online dating services. After that, various kinds of payment models emerge depending on the user’s preference. The most common model is the “monthly subscription” model. Here, users should subscribe to be able to send mail but the reply is for free. Next is the “reply-based” subscription wherein you must subscribe to reply but it’s free to send mails. Others include “buy a block of credits to pay per message,” and “instant messaging.”
2. Profile basics. Online dating services usually require basic information like age, height, ethnicity, religion, eye color, hair color, occupation, education, smoking preference, favorite hobbies, favorite activities, words that describe your personality, things you are looking for in a partner, how serious are you in getting a partner, and questions that help you describe your values, beliefs, and the like.
3. Security issues. Before you weight the pros and cons, compare prices, and sign up totally in any online dating service, it is a must that you determine how mush personal information you are about to give. This will protect you from anyone who would want to use your identity. You must also determine how many people you are willing to communicate with on a regular basis so you can know your prospects very well.

Does A Date Online Count as “Real” Dating?
by: Joe Davidson
The terms “online dating” and “dating online” are thrown around all the time, and used by practically any website that is primarily created to connect singles over the internet. But, in reality, what do these terms really mean? Can you really date someone online? Can you have a healthy dating life if it only exists online? How can you truly get to know someone if you've only been on online dates? Do those really count as 'real' dates?
Generally, dating online usually refers to the process of meeting people for potential dates online, or through an internet dating service. These services usually provide some help and guidance with which other members are most suitable matches, but for the most part, its up to each individual to find and introduce themselves to other members and potential people to date online. In this sense, online dating services act as an arena for singles to come and find other people interested in pursuing the same types of relationships as them.
The “dating” that takes place online is in the form of messages and emails that pass between people. Does this count as “real dating” even though there are no face to face conversations? Is 'dating' the time where people get to know more about each other? Do you have to be in the same room as someone to be on a 'date' with them? Although online dating is usually described as meeting, messaging, emailing, and eventually meeting other singles in person, the terms seem to be fairly accurate. Dating online can, and does take place, when two people find each other online and pursue a courting period, whether that is on or offline, where they get to know each other better and test the waters to see if there is a mutual attraction. Although an in person meeting may not take place until later, many of the same components (aside from the physical) take place through a date online. Although dating online isn't defined in the same was a traditional dating, the changes many peoples' romantic and sexual lives are experiencing due to technological evolutions, may warrant reconceptions of the definitions of certain terms, just as these advances have reconceived our notions of how to find love.

How To Make The Most Of Your Free Online Dating Service
by: Nathalie Fiset
With millions of single people trying to find their match over the internet, it is often hard to stand out among the crowd unless of course you have the body of Eva Longoria or Brad Pitt.
And we can’t all have Hollywood looks. (This is perhaps why some people resort to editing their photos on Photoshop in order to appear good in their profiles!)
Still, there are ways to make the most out of a free online dating site and make others take notice. The secret is to initiate action and to not just wait for people to view your profile and get to know you. Below are some tips that can help you make the most out of your online dating service account whether it is for free or not.
1. Make a Vavavoom profile!
Making a profile that is interesting and inviting does not mean that you have to invent some exotic name and out of this world experience. You and your life can be interesting too with just the right words. One advise is to write down things about you that is interesting. Do you have an interesting job or an interesting hobby? Have you gone to places and done things that may seem exciting for other people?
Include it in your profile. As much as you can, veer away from cliché statements that are often seen in profiles in online dating sites. It can be tiring to see the same things written profiles. You can also include some funny stories or anecdotes that can serve as hook to your audience. This will make them remember you more.
Also, make sure that your profile is grammatically correct. Not only will this be an easy read for people but you will also come across as educated and refined.
2. Upload a nice photo
This does not mean that you will be putting photographs of your pretty cousin or your gorgeous brother on your profile. Search through your albums for a photo that you feel shows the best side of you. Often, the best photos are those where the subjects smiles widely. This is inviting for those people who are reading your profile.
Also, make sure that the photo that you upload is clear and distinct. If you are only putting some hazy shot with you meters away from the foreground; might as well leave it blank. Use a photo, which other people can see and study.
If you think you don’t have much photo that is worth uploading, enlist the help of your friends and relatives. As much as possible, put a solo shot. If you don’t have one, make sure that your caption can identify who you are in a group shot.
3. Break the ice
Using the online dating service does not end in writing a profile and uploading your favorite photo. Try to also search through the hundreds of singles for people who interest you. Once someone catches your eye, let him or her know. This is all done virtually so being rejected is not really as painful; so what the heck, take the plunge.
You can try writing a letter that states how you like their profile or what aspect of their site has caught your eye. Put on the letter your name. This makes the letter more personalized and more inviting for the person being sent to.
If you are too shy to actually write a letter, try putting a smiley sign or just plain hi! If the person you sent it to likes your profile, he or she will respond back with a hi. Be as polite as possible as some people who do this come across as potential stalkers such as those that write the words “destined,” “soulmates,” or “love.”
Remember that your letter is your way of making a great first impression so be on your best behavior.

The Keys To Successful Dating For Men
by Nathalie Fiset,M.D.
Dating is probably one of the most exciting yet daunting adventures any single individual might ever encounter. Traditional dating—meeting up, going out and eating out—with somebody you are interested with can be a challenge as well as a learning experience for everyone.
More than the women, men feel more pressured when going out on a date because they are expected to do almost everything to make the date a success. Since they are the ones who will carry out most of the so-called “dating tasks” here are some tips that can help men go through with the exciting process of dating the girl they are interested with.
BARING THE BASIC DATING ESSENTIALS
Dating can be a daunting task especially for those men who haven’t dated for a long time, for those who haven’t been successful with women, and even for those guys who are so used to dating without knowing the basic rules in playing the game.
Remember, people need conform the rules whether they like it or not. In the case of dating, there are simple rules that need to be followed to ensure success for both parties.
1. Ensure cleanliness by keeping on eye on your hygiene and style. The worst thing any man can do is to turn up on a date smelling, unshaven, and looking dirty so the first thing you should do is to take a bath, brush your teeth, and shave those stubborn stubbles. Men who do not know how to maintain hygiene are no-nos for the more hygienic sex. So it pays to spray on some decent cologne and gargle before you meet up with your date.
2. Dress up to look your best. Looking your best when you go out on a date gives the idea that you have prepared for the special occasion even if it’s only a first date. If you don’t have enough dough to buy new shoes or clothes, at least try to wear those decent ones to impress your date.
3. Be on time. The first impression of women is usually based on how much men value their time. If you ask a woman on a date, make sure that you can turn up on time because not doing so will give her the impression that you don’t value your word. If you don’t want your date to think you are unreliable, try be early or at least on time when going out on a date.
4. Before asking someone out, make sure you have a job to flaunt. Women always find security in men you are secured themselves. Although financial stability is too early to discuss, your current job will give her an idea if you can manage dating her for a long time. Men who have jobs give women the impression that they are ambitious and they have the will to go on top.
5. Do all the necessary preparations. Preparing for things you can say during the date will ensure the easy flow of conversation all throughout. Getting your knowledge levels up and sharing it with your date will definitely make her date interested. The safest topic to discuss includes current events so make sure you watch the news or read quality broadsheets.
6. Know when to stop talking and start listening. Opening up topics for a conversation will pave the way for an interesting intellectual stimulation but you must know when the ice has been broken. After you have given your thoughts on a certain topic, ask her what she thinks and listen to her intently.
7. Issues on bills. The general rule in dating is that whoever asks for that date should pay for it. Since you are the one who asked for and you are the man, then, by all means, you should pay the bill. But if the idea of your paying for the entire bill does not sit well to the woman you’re dating and she insists paying for her own, make a compromise. Suggest that she pays the half and you’ll pay for the rest.
8. Being a gentleman pays. Simple things that show your gentleness like holding the door open for her, letting her walk through the door first, and pulling out a chair for her will definitely make an impact on her. Showering her compliments throughout the day will also make her think that you appreciate her efforts of looking good for the date.
9. Watch out for body language. After the date, watch out for her body language before attempting to kiss her goodnight or before trying to seduce her to jump into your bed. Sex on first date is not a good thing unless she wants to. Lastly, don’t tell her that you’ll call her if you don’t have plans of doing so.
10. If you are serious in the woman you’re dating, start learning how to live a healthy life. Smoking and drinking only show irresponsibility and carelessness because you are not taking care of your health.
